Early Childhood Educator for Growing Jewish Preschool
Location: Durham, NC 27705
The Lerner Jewish Community Day School in Durham, North Carolina seeks experienced early childhood educators to teach in the Lerner Preschool for the 2022-2023 school year. The Lerner School serves students in preschool through 5th grade. Our mission statement affirms our commitment to “achieving the highest standards of academic excellence, fostering learning of Jewish values, culture and traditions while building a diverse and caring community . . . one child at a time.” The candidate will be expected to further this mission by planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program and by collaborating with the assistant teacher, colleagues and parents.
• Our preschool’s education philosophy is that children learn best when they have a consistent routine and engage in varied learning activities. We push one another to explore and utilize the best methods and practices in Early Childhood Education, including Reggio Emilia, Loose Parts and emergent curriculum.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare, and execute lesson plans and instructional activities by identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes
• Utilize a variety of learning materials and resources in the classroom
• Identify student instructional levels and differentiate instruction to address students at their readiness level using a variety of teaching strategies
• Use multiple modes of teaching to support instruction
• Encourage and monitor progress of all students
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress
• Manage student behavior by establishing clear expectations and implementing our Responsive Classroom program
• Effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, and administration to maximize student growth and to create a positive learning environment
• Participate in on-site professional development, school meetings, and extracurricular programs as required
• Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
• Ensure that school policies and safety procedures are reflected in daily practice
• Continue to grow professionally by maintaining awareness of current pedagogy and by implementing changes to instruction as needed
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Education, Child Development or a related field
• 3+ years of relevant teaching experience
• Technologically savvy
• Awareness of and interest in supporting a Jewish day school environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Passion for teaching & love of children
